Beginnings

It's always hard to write the first sentence of the first entry of a new blog.

Now that that's done, I should start by saying that hobbies aren't completely new to me. Everyone has hobbies, whether that's what they call them or not. But I just graduated college with my BFA in Theatre. As a result, most of my time was spent doing theatre, which is my biggest passion. I loved most of it, and I was very happy to have my life consumed by it.

But now I'm living with my mom and her boyfriend (Mitch), and I have a job working at a nearby Banana Republic, and my time is suddenly... mine. So I decided to take up some hobbies and improve some skills during my time here in Omaha. Coming out of my final Summer Theatre at ESU, I made a list of hobbies and interests I'd like to take up. Here's a rough recap of it:

Baking
Cooking
Vocal lessons
Movies
Picking up French again
Reading

Is it possible to pick all of these up in one, maximum two, years? It seemed like it when I made the list (and I cut out a few things here), but I feel I'm going to have to prioritize. Ideally, I won't have to, but I want to be realistic.

I feel I should briefly elaborate on a couple of things, too. I've long been a movie whore, so listing movies hardly seems necessary. However, I really want to learn more about certain directors and genres, so I felt that listing it would be all right. And I've always been a reader, but I'd really like to explore certain authors' libraries (like Tom Robbins and Chuck Palahniuk) and get more into the classics.

I've already began cooking. Mom and I are even having a kind of adventure together with it, by trying to see how long we can go without cooking the same dinner twice (leftovers do not count). I think my next post will look more into what I've made already and what I'd like to make next.

So there we have it: the introduction is finished. Now for the awkward final sentence that one hopes brings something fantastic, but really just leaves one feeling absolutely no closure whatsoever.
